AN INTERVIEW WITH RT FACTS DESIGN AND ANTIQUES
Jonathan R Beckerman Photography/Contributed photo in CT Insider
What is the unique appeal of antiques?
If you lean in really close, they may whisper their stories.
How is the industry changing and are you optimistic for its future?
I wouldn't call it an industry. It's a passion. We surround ourselves with history, beauty, fine craftsmanship and we are reusing things so we hopefully have a future.
When looking at antiques - what key questions should buyers ask?
Try to get the provenance and pass it along.
What advice would you give to people new to antiques who want to learn more?
Buy pieces that really intrigue you and learn about them, you will always have something to talk about.
What attracted you to antiques and starting a business?
Greg was born into the business. Natalie was a knitwear designer who fell in love with an antique dealer. They bought an Old Town Hall in the country surrounded by fashion designers who needed to furnish their homes and gardens. It was the perfect equation. It started as a folly and it continues...
Why do you support Trade Secrets?
Every element of Trade Secrets, since it's inception, has been about kindness and treating people well. We were one of Bunny's original "trade secrets." Her idea was to invite her friends and her favorite vendors to her house so they could meet. She structured it to raise money for Women's Support Services, which educates school kids about healthy relationships, as well as providing a safe-haven. I wonder if Bunny realized how big this idea would become? We are honored to have been a part of it for so many years!
